Pan Flute Entertainer - Queenstown
Welcome to the official website of Max Lines, The Pan Flute Entertainer from Queenstown, New Zealand.
Born into a musical family, Max Lines has been performing since the age of eight when he started playing the cornet in the Lower Hutt Brass Band. He next learned the trumpet and started playing in local rock bands but with too many late nights in rooms full of cigarette smoke and loud music this wasn’t where Max’s heart was.
As a churchgoer, Max soon found himself playing trumpet at local receptions, weddings, funerals and church services. His style was perfectly suited to the songs of worship as the melodies complemented his tempo.
Max worked as a street musician in Wellington playing trumpet and selling tapes of himself while performing. His passion for learning new instruments increased and he soon found himself hunting down a pan flute – not an easy task in New Zealand. A chance meeting with a German pan flutist, who incidentally made flutes for Zamphir, set him on his way.
The pan flute is the national instrument of Romania and a difficult instrument to play. After a lot of time and practice, blood, sweat, tears and a few faints ( due to the demanding breathing requirements), Max has mastered the very difficult range of notes needed to play the pan flute.
